Tri NZ National Champs Medals are Very Nice

 Earlier in the week, I was sitting at my desk/kitchen table, working from home like the socially responsible citizen that I am, when all of a sudden, there was a knock on the door. Who could it possibly be? (I knew who it was because there is a window next to my front door, and because I was expecting a visitor). It was none other than Canterbury Classic race director, John Newsom! What a privilege and honour! What could he possibly be here for? Like I said previously, I was expecting him, so knew what he was doing here. What I wasn't expecting however, was a special delivery on behalf of Triathlon New Zealand and an ever so slightly awkward presentation on my front doorstep of this here stunning national championship medal.



I thought to myself, this medal is so nice, and I am so arrogant, I'd better make an Instagram post showing it off. All my idea.

Anyway, as you can see, it's very shiny, and the unique shape really draws the eye in to some of the more intricate details. I guess you could say it really puts Triathlon New Zealand on the map.




Once more, I'd like to emphasize that this post was entirely my idea, and I do not have a metaphorical gun to my head forcing me to write.

Bad news. I’m not a front pack swimmer after all. The pace was too hot, and the field was too small, so I just couldn’t quite make that front group, and there was no other group to join. A couple of other athletes who had apparently also missed the group, blasted past me, so I jumped on the back very briefly, and then decided to slow down because I was tired. I swam a steady pace the rest of the way, locking eyes with some rich people on a very large boat, who were almost certainly judging me for being slow. Sea2Sky 2023 Race Report and the Most Scenic Triathlon in New Zealand

A year ago, I said that one day I would address the question of the most scenic triathlon in New Zealand, and more recently, I hinted that I was coming closer to a conclusion to the question. Well, today is the day folks. Read on to find out my verdict on the most scenic triathlon in New Zealand. But first, I'm going to make you wade through yet another race report. This time, for one of the contenders for the most scenic tri, the Sea2Sky Challenge. One of the unique (to the area) features of Sea2Sky is the swim. Surf swims are not common in this neck of the woods, and this has got to be one of the best surf swims out there. On a good day, big swell beyond the breakers, and good body surfing into shore. THE BLOG IS BACK - Tauranga Half 2025 Race Report

You thought this blog was dead, didn’t you? Well, guess again. It was only sleeping, and now it's back. So, strap in and hold on to your hats. It’s going to be a bumpy ride (because it’s been a year since I wrote a blog). 2025 has started with a hiss and a roar, with my season opener doubling as my best-ever result (on paper at least). I’ve raced the Tauranga Half four times now, and my results have been as follows: 2022: 10 th place out of 10 finishers 2023: 15 th place out of 15 finishers 2024: 8 th place out of 10 finishers 2025: 4 th place out of 10 finishers Here it is in the world's most average graph: Figure 1: Not last anymore Not quite on the podium, but that is solid progress, and for the first time in my dubious professional career, I won some prize money.
